Roppongi(六本木)

Roppongi is a area of Minato Ward. It is has recently become popular as a massive shopping and dining place. Roppongi Hills and Tokyo mid Town are the main complexes of this area and many thousands of people visit every day.

The area around Roppongi to the south and west is known as Azabu (麻布). These districts are generally quieter than Roppongi but have also absorbed some of its vibrant commercial activity and nightlife.

How to Get There

To get to Roppongi, take the Hibiya/O-Edo subway to Roppongi (H04/E23). Alternatively, walk from Tameike-Sanno (G06), Roppongi-Itchome (N05), or Azabu-juban (N04/E22).

If you walk west under the highway long enough (half an hour plus), you’ll eventually end up in Shibuya; following the highway east for about as long will take you to the Diet Building and Imperial Palace. In daytime, you can also take frequent buses along Roppongi-dori to speed your way.

Night Spots in Roppongi

Roppongi is also the place to be (late) at night. Nightlife starts later than in other parts of Tokyo and many bars and clubs are open until 4AM-5AM when the first trains run in the morning. Most other nightlife in Tokyo shuts down when the last trains run (around midnight). If you start your evening early you should first go to Shibuya and move over to Roppongi after 11PM. Especially, on Friday and Saturday nights, the streets, bars, and clubs are overflowed with people from all over the world.

All clubs require you to show ID (passportforeigner registration card), and many of clubs cost you some entrance fees. (some places do not have entrance fee, but you must buy some drink there.) Also, many bars and clubs will charge you entrance and drinks only by cash. The man of excessive lightly dressed refuses entrance
