What is nebuta?

“Nebuta” is a provincialism(dialect) of “Nemuri”. It means “sleepy”.The purpose of this festival is to rid sleepy from farmwork. Because sleepiness disturb farming.Various theories exist for the origin of naming.

Musical strings consist of wooden Japanese flute, handy gonga and Japanese drum.

Optional info The festival is held in nighttime from 2nd to 6th of August. And be held in daytime on 7th and fireworks is held in the evening of 7th. The eve of Nebuta-matsuri is celebrated on 1st of August.
